Yes..!!!after a long keen discussion whether to visit Ooty or Madurai on our Diwali holidays....we came to the abrupt decision that we all will be visiting "Pondy".Yes..I am talking about Pondicherry which is officially known as Puducherry. Its a city situated in Puducherry district of the union territory, and is surrounded by the state of Tamil Nadu to which it shares most of its culture. After coming to know about its history and its enchanting beauty,we decided to visit it.
So,all prepared six of us(all of us were visiting pondy for the very first time)commenced our journey from CMBT(Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus),Koyembedu. After a long 4hrs(actual time taken is 2h 50min....π)journey,we reached Pondicherry. After reaching there..first of all,we all decided to feed our exigent stomach. After having a powerpack lunch we bestired ourselves to French war memorial which is situated just opposite to the Rock Beach in White Town. After relishing the beauty of that memorial we all headed towards Bharati Government Park which is situated just behind the memorial. It has a captivating piece of architecture inside it by the name of Aayi Mandapam..
After visiting Aayi Mandapam..we headed towards Kargil War Memorial..which is situated at a distance of 650m from the park...and after paying homage to our bravehearts we headed towards the most attractive part of our visit....the french colonies.I mentioned the term attractive because, once you are inside the colonies...you start doubting yourself that whether you are still in India or you landed somewhere in France....π.While on our way to the french colonies we were forced to halt by the charm of colonial building of The French Consulate General. This colonial building has changed over the years, and yet managed to retain some of its original 18th century charm.
Finally as we were running out of time(trip destroyed mainly due the techical snag our bus developed while heading pondicherry...π’)..we decided to wrap our trip by visiting the Rock Beach which is situated in White Town locality.we also witnessed a huge statue of The father of our nation - Mahatma Gandhi just infront of the Rock Beach. It was really a outstanding masterpeice I would like to appreciate.
Finally with a promise of visiting again(this time not in a bus...π )..we said "Au revoir" to Pondy and headed towards Chennai....π
Unplanned trips are the only things that real happenπ..
