The abrupt tour
Yes..!!!after a long keen discussion whether to visit Ooty or Madurai on our Diwali holidays....we came to the abrupt decision that we all will be visiting "Pondy".Yes..I am talking about Pondicherry which is officially known as Puducherry. Its a city situated in Puducherry district of the union territory, and is surrounded by the state of Tamil Nadu to which it shares most of its culture. After coming to know about its history and its enchanting beauty,we decided to visit it.
So,all prepared six of us(all of us were visiting pondy for the very first time)commenced our journey from CMBT(Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus),Koyembedu. After a long 4hrs(actual time taken is 2h 50min....😐)journey,we reached Pondicherry. After reaching there..first of all,we all decided to feed our exigent stomach. After having a powerpack lunch we bestired ourselves to French war memorial which is situated just opposite to the Rock Beach in White Town. After relishing the beauty of that memorial we all headed towards Bharati Government Park which is situated just behind the memorial. It has a captivating piece of architecture inside it by the name of Aayi Mandapam..
After visiting Aayi Mandapam..we headed towards Kargil War Memorial..which is situated at a distance of 650m from the park...and after paying homage to our bravehearts we headed towards the most attractive part of our visit....the french colonies.I mentioned the term attractive because, once you are inside the colonies...you start doubting yourself that whether you are still in India or you landed somewhere in France....😄.While on our way to the french colonies we were forced to halt by the charm of colonial building of The French Consulate General. This colonial building has changed over the years, and yet managed to retain some of its original 18th century charm.
Finally as we were running out of time(trip destroyed mainly due the techical snag our bus developed while heading pondicherry...😢)..we decided to wrap our trip by visiting the Rock Beach which is situated in White Town locality.we also witnessed a huge statue of The father of our nation - Mahatma Gandhi just infront of the Rock Beach. It was really a outstanding masterpeice I would like to appreciate.
Finally with a promise of visiting again(this time not in a bus...😠)..we said "Au revoir" to Pondy and headed towards Chennai....🚗
Thalassophile
Here you can see how beautiful it looks at night. When I came here I was not knowing that I will like this city. One of the reason why I like Chennai is its weather and beaches.. According to me beaches are the best place to find peace and one can forget all his worries by looking at the sea.
Mountains are calling!
The best view comes after the hardest climb
Inspite of not being a morning person, I was excited for my little adventure.
Woke up at 4 am, packed some sandwiches and black coffee for me and my cousins. And here I was, all ready for my first ever trekking.
We started at 4:30 am and reached our destination at around 5:20am.
We were so tired that we didn't speak for a while. That moment felt so light, so fresh and free. We had an amazing view of Nainital followed by a beautiful sunrise. The colour of the sky was changing within seconds. Mother nature has the best box of crayons. It was breath taking. Everything in that moment was worth it. Waking up early to climbing a little mountain.
In the moment, my cousins and I made a promise that we would often go for trekkings or some adventure. (We are still planning on our next adventure trip though)
Sometimes, a break from your routine, is the very thing you need.
Pack your bags, go somewhere!

Destination Duggirala!
Traveling to the place that's your name? Well,
that was one memorable and thrilling moment. We were actually driving to a
village called Yalamanchalli Lanka for a family-get-together. It was a good 650
kms drive from Chennai. The entire drive is a rich green one, lush with paddy
farms.
There are a bunch of villages in East Godavari
District that go by the suffix of Lanka in their names, meaning island. Eg,
Sanapalli Lanka, Komaraju Lanka etc. They are closely placed river-islands
connected by small bridges. Water canals run all through these villages. All
villages are interconnected, so we ended up going in circles using GPS.
Finally, we reached by asking people on the road for directions..that helped!
A telugu by birth, I have never lived in
AP although frequently do visit families etc This was the first time I actually
saw these villages upfront. Knowing your roots is quite the thingJ
The resort that was arranged, Palivelu Resort
was not so good, but the family bonding made up for the discomfort of the
place! There’s a famous temple of the Goddess Kanyaka Parameswari enroute at
Penukonda that has all the ‘nakshatras’ of my community inscribed on the
pillars. My family does not subscribe to the caste-community norms and inter
religion, inter-national marriages are quite usual. Yet it was interesting to
see a temple with so much of significance. Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, located at
Antarvedi on the banks of the river Godavari was another famous temple.
As we were driving from Chennai I saw this signboard
of Chirala that sparked the idea that Duggirala must be nearby. A quick search on
the internet confirmed its existence and on our return we took a detour and
went to this place.
It was one thrilling moment for us. Duggirala, a small sleepy village in
Guntur district that has a population of around 10,000 is known for its turmeric
production.
This place comes under the Tenali Revenue
Division. That brings me to mention the famous Tenali Ramakrishna from this
place. He was the Vikatakavi, meaning a poet who uses wit and humour. He was a
scholar and advisor to the King Krishnadevaraya and was one of the
Ashtadiggajas, eight poets in his court. Supposedly Tenali Ramakrishna was
instrumental in stopping the Delhi Sultanate from taking over Krishnadevaraya’s
empire using his wit and strategy. We saw his statue on our way.
The anti climax of our short drive inside
Duggirala that took all of 10-20 minutes was on a Sunday afternoon, everyone
enjoying their siesta with all shops and establishments closed. Our excitement
was so much that we stopped one lone man on the street and spoke to him asking
about the place. He looked at us as if we were out of our minds, and said yeah
there’s a school, a college, a bank, shops and yeah that’s it. Then we told him
that our surname is the name of his village and he just did not get it! Can it
get crazier than this?!
We wanted to shout from the rooftops and no
one was there to hear it…sigh.
Hopefully going to my maiden surname, Darisi
will be better? That’s next on the list!!
